26.8.0-beta
2026-08This is a beta release intended and targeted to larger audiences and general public use. Almost all the changes are for polish and consistency between various menus and views. I can't test everything (certainly not on Windows), so expect bugs/issues.
-
Save the current queue as a playlist.
A save action in the queue header turns whatever you're listening to into a named playlist, and asks whether to include the tracks you've already played.
-
Tags in list view.
Albums and artists show their tags inline while browsing, with a +N chip when there are more than fit the row.
-
Album links in more places.
Queue rows and tag results now show the album as a clickable line next to larger artwork, so you can jump from a track to its album without going via the artist.
-
Selectable counts in tag views
, so you can see how much a tag actually covers.
-
The queue is a collapsible rail.
It starts as a narrow strip beside your library and expands into a panel you can drag to whatever width you want. On a narrow window it becomes a view of its own rather than squeezing the content.
-
One toolbar layout across the library.
Albums, Artists, All Songs, playlists and tag views now put the count, filter, actions and sort control in the same place, instead of each view arranging them differently.
-
The Favorites view is gone.
Every view has its own ♥ filter instead, so you narrow to favourites where you already are rather than switching to a separate screen and losing your place.
-
Play and Shuffle shrink to icons
when the window is too narrow for their labels, rather than pushing other controls off the edge.
-
Dialogs share one frame
and fade in consistently.
-
Thinner, quieter scrollbars.
-
Confirmation dialogs no longer open with the destructive button focused.
Factory Reset could be triggered by opening it and pressing Enter, which would erase your library. Focus now starts on Cancel.
-
Dialogs can no longer open behind the docked queue
, where they were unreachable.
-
The Now Playing settings panel no longer overlaps itself
on short windows.
-
Warning and delete buttons now meet contrast requirements — the previous red-on-red was
-
Song counts no longer read "N of 0" when a view is opened with the favourites filter
-
Playing or selecting from a filtered playlist now acts on what you can see, not on the
-
Menus close on Escape, and expose proper roles to screen readers.
-
The tag delete confirmation is styled correctly and no longer renders at the wrong size.
-
Automatic updates are switched off in this release
while an opt-in is added to first-run setup. Nothing checks for new versions in the background; watch bard.fm or the releases page instead.
-
This version has to be installed manually.
Earlier builds looked for updates in a place they could never reach, so they won't find this one.
